Alan K. Connors
August 5, 1940 - February 15, 2014
We are sad to announce that on Saturday February 15, 2014, Alan Connors died of heart failure in the QEII hospital at the age of 73 years.
Alan was a wonderful, complex person who shared the last 27 years of his life with his wife and soulmate Jo-Ann Theriault. His children Karla McInnes (Cameron), Fred Connors (Joel), Paula Hadley (Brad), and Stephan Connors along with his grandchildren Connor, Christopher and Ava are also mourning the loss of their dad and grampy. Alan's 3 step children and 7 step grandchildren have enjoyed his presence and influence in their lives and will miss him as well.
Alan was the son of the late Bun and Dot Connors of Halifax/East Dover and was born and raised in Halifax along with his sister Sheila Lipton (Richard), and brothers Robert (Judy) and Paul (Carla). He loved this city and Nova Scotia. He and Jo-Ann retired here from Ottawa in 2004 after many years in the Canadian Army and the Federal Public Service.
Alan was a man generous with his time as evidenced by his volunteer work with the Veterans through the Royal Canadian Legion and Veterans Affairs. He was honoured for this work when he was awarded the Queen's Jubilee Medal in 2012.
Alan was also a member of and served on the Board of Directors of the Seniors College Association of Nova Scotia (SCANS). He spent many happy hours attending courses the college offered as well as assisting in the future development of the SCANS.
Alan loved music, loved to dance and socialize with his friends. He will be missed.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at the Atlantic Funeral Home 6552 Bayers Road on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 from 6pm-8pm.
Funeral services will be held at Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church (Normandy at Robie) in the Halifax North End on February 20, 2014 at 11am.
Donations to Feed Nova Scotia or the Salvation Army in lieu of flowers would be appreciated by the family.
