Angelina Grbac
April 21, 1930 - January 31, 2017
Grbac, Angelina Maria
Age 86 of Halifax. It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our much-loved wife, mother, nonna and great-grandmother. Angelina, daughter of the late Karlo and Valerija (Furlanic) Bertok passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 31 at the QEII Infirmary. Angelina was born April 21, 1930 in Bertoki, Italy (in what is now Slovenia). After her marriage she immigrated to Canada in 1957 where she and husband, Francesco made their home in Halifax. Over the proceeding few years she became the loving mother to son, Eddy (Lori) Grbac, daughter Graziella (Darrell) Grbac and son, Sergio (Kelly) Grbac. While remaining a caring mother for her growing children she also began working as a seamstress. Sewing was a passion she continued to apply throughout her life and could be found quietly hemming pants or replacing a zipper on any given day. She also found great pleasure in cooking and feeding her family and sharing her skills with her grandchildren. Meals from her kitchen were prepared and presented with love and enjoyed by us all. She took pride in being a nonna and her family and grandchildren meant the world to her. The name Angelina means “Angel” and she honoured the name by being a selfless, kind hearted and loving person. Angelina is predeceased by her beloved daughter in law, Michele. She is survived by all her siblings, Karlo, Albino, Mario and Luigia. She is loved and will be missed dearly by her husband of over 60 years, her children and their partners, grandchildren, Jennifer (Luc) Legacy, Katie Grbac, Daniella (Phil) Brownell, Jeffrey Grbac, Samantha DiFrancescantonio, Melissa (Joel) Grbac, Alexandra Grbac; three great-grandchildren and brothers and sister with many nieces and nephews in Europe. Donations in memory of Angelina may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia. Visitation will take place 5-8 pm Thursday, Feb. 2 in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax. A funeral service will be held 11 am Friday, Feb. 3 at St. Catherine of Siena Parish 6476 Bayers Rd., Halifax where a reception will follow. Online condolences may be made by visiting the Halifax Chapel at www.atlanticfuneralhomes.com
