Aubrey Clarence Macdonald
November 17, 1927 - March 8, 2014
Macdonald, Aubrey
Halifax, NS – With heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Aubrey Macdonald, on March 8, 2014. Aubrey passed away at the age of 87, with his loving family by his side. He was greatly respected for his quiet and gentle manner and will be missed deeply by his family and friends.
Aubrey was passionate about the outdoors and loved to go boating, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing and four wheeling. With his wife by his side, he loved to travel around every nook and cranny of Nova Scotia keeping an eye out for deer and occasionally across Canada and down to the United States. Dad enjoyed family gatherings, spending time at Blind Bay, Kemptown and Mabou. He was happiest listening to old-time music with friends and family, while sharing a cold beverage and a laugh.
Aubrey grew up in Fairview, where he devoted his working life to the family business, J. Bert Macdonald & Sons. In his spare time, he served as a volunteer firefighter and was a longstanding member of both the Driftclimbers Snowmobile Club and Fairview United Church. He was the youngest son of the late John and Lillian (Cook) Macdonald; and was preceded by his two brothers: Randall and Gordon, and four sisters: Jean Martin, Claire Crowe, Evelyn Thomas and Betty LeGallais.
Aubrey is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Florence (Conway), his three children: son Gregory (Deborah Francis), daughter Deborah (Charles Gray) and daughter Valerie (Edwin Logan), six grandchildren Michael and Jennifer; Melissa; Matthew, Peter and James; and, two great grandchildren Jayden and Chase as well as many dear nieces and nephews and their families.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 11 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Atlantic Funeral Home, located at 6552 Bayers Road, Halifax. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at 10:00 am with Rev. Heather Fraser officiating – a reception will be held after the service. The burial will follow at Sunrise Park Inter-Faith Cemetery, 2025 Prospect Road, Hatchet Lake.
