Basil "Puppy" Edward Rogers
August 7, 1919 - February 23, 2016
Basil (Puppy) Edward Rogers - age 96
It is with gratitude for his life and sadness at his loss that we announce the passing of our wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Basil was born on August 7, 1919 and grew up on Birmingham Street in Halifax. He was the youngest and last surviving member of his immediate family. Basil was the son of the late Daniel and Anne (Kelly). He was predeceased by his loving wife of over 65 years, Frances (Cuvelier), his brothers Clarence, John, Bernard, Daniel, his sisters Rita and Ann.
He leaves behind his son Michael and daughter-in-law Rose (Chiasson) four granddaughters Angela, Jill, Pamela (Onai) and Stephanie (Geoff), four great-grandchildren Daly, Markus, Kate, and Stephen whom he loved and spent countless hours with. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. Basil proudly worked for 34 years with the Halifax Fire Department and over 20 years with R. D. Lindsay Funeral Homes. Basil and Frances especially loved spending time at their cottage in Erinville, Guysborough County visiting relatives and friends having gathered many fond memories over the years. Basil will always be remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor and stories. The family would like to extend thanks to his many caregivers; Dr. Patricia Beresford, as well as Ivy Meadows Nursing Home staff who went above and beyond their call of duty in their care of Basil.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted To Atlantic Funeral Home 6552 Bayers Road Halifax where visitation will take place on Friday, February 26th, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held at Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta, 6032 Normandy Dr. Halifax on Saturday, February 27th, at 11:00 am, with a reception following in the church hall. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Kids Sport Nova Scotia.
