Beverly Ann Johnston
December 13, 1942 - May 29, 2015
Johnston, Beverly Ann
It is with God’s grace and mercy that we announce the passing of Beverly Ann (Tolliver) Johnston, 73, on Friday May 29, 2015. Beverly passed peacefully at Northwood Manor.
Born in Halifax, Beverly moved to Montreal at age eleven and spent twenty-seven years of her life there as a model, teacher’s assistant, waitress, and at Montreal General Hospital before returning to Halifax to raise her son and care for her mother Gertie.
As many can attest to, Beverly lived a very active life. A graduate of Henson College, she was an avid traveller, member of the Toast Master’s Club and a woman of faith active in Cornwallis St. Baptist Church, Brunswick United Church, and more recently Beechville Baptist Church after being baptized. She also loved gardening and her number one passion in life; caring for others often above her own needs. She worked at Scotiabank for ten years and then dedicated 20 plus years at Northwood Home Care Services where she retired from in 2010. But her greatest joy had always remained being a mother to her “one and only son.”
Beverly is predeceased by her birth mother, Ada Ruth Wyse and her adopted mother, Gertrude ‘Guggie’ Tolliver, and brother Richard Wyse.
She is survived by her loving husband, Lindley Johnston; her son, Finley Tolliver (Cheyanne), sister Shazza Laframboise of Calgary, favorite nephews, Andre and Pero also of Calgary; grandchildren, Lynisha, Amaya, Finley Jr., Danelle, and many cousins on both sides.
Visitation will be from 7-9pm on Tuesday June 2 and funeral service will be held at 11am on Wednesday June 3; both at Atlantic Funeral Homes, 6552 Bayers Rd, Halifax. Burial will follow in Oakridge Memory Gardens, Lower Sackville.
In lieu of flowers donations in her memory will be greatly appreciated to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia, www.alzheimer.ca/ns
