Carl James Drake
January 5, 1934 - November 2, 2013
DRAKE, Carl James – Age 79 of Halifax. Passed away peacefully on November 2, 2013, after months of illness, surrounded by his family. Born in Halifax January 5, 1934, he was a son of the late Bernard and Clara Drake. In his younger years he was a well-known waiter in such bars as the Old Derby Tavern, Southgate Picadilly, etc. Carl was one of the best softball pitchers on the Commons in the 1960’s. Some of his lifelong buddies played alongside of him on these teams, including Ray Wheeler, Ronnie Slade, Jimmy Collins, Willie Samson and Greggy Raymond. Carl was a former member of the Fairview Legion no. 142 and the city of Halifax Regional Dart League. Carl loved his children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren very much, and they loved him back. He will be sadly missed. He is survived by his wife and companion of over 48 years Elaine (Casey); son Karl; Daughters, Kelly (Donnie) Drake, Karen (Leon) Leblanc, Donna (Kenny) Drake, all of Halifax; Paula Drake, Moncton; Daughter of the heart, Karen (Charles) Michel of Estevan Sask.; Sister Theresa Parker, Halifax; brothers Bobby (Gloria) Drake, Halifax; Art (Bertha) Drake, Lake Charlotte; several grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Carl was predeceased by sons, Bernie, Korey and Stevie Drake; sister, Bernice “Bunny” Armsworthy; Brothers, Bernie, Joe and Teddy. Visitation will take place from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax. In keeping with Carl’s wishes, there will be no services. The family would like to thank Dr. Howard Conter for years of care. Dr. Paige Moorehouse for the last six years of compassionate care, as well as all the great nurses of Abbey Lane Memorial Building, QEII 9th floor who were so good to Carl, especially Martin and Chris.
