Clarence "Gabby" Gregory O'Hearn
October 8, 1932 - January 10, 2012
O’Hearn, Clarence Gregory “Gabby” – 79 of Halifax, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Clarence “Gabby” O’Hearn, on Tuesday January 10, 2012 at the QEII, V.G. Site, Halifax, with his loving family by his side. Born in Dartmouth, October 8, 1932, he was the son of the late Martin and Mona (Ryan) O’Hearn. Gabby served 32 yrs on the Halifax Fire Dept., retiring in 1992. From the young age of 11, Gabby caddied and then played golf on the hills of Brightwood Golf & Country club until the spring of 2010. At the age of 19 he was crowned Maritime Amateur Champion and continued a golfing career which included many tournament wins and accomplishments over the yrs with the highlight being crowned N.S. Senior Men’s Champion in 1992. He was a long time member of St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, Halifax. The love of Gabby’s life was his family and spending time with them all. Gabby is survived by his loving wife of 52 yrs., Cecilia (Meehan); daughter, Beth (Paul) Moulton; and granddaughter, Erin whom he adored; siblings, Donald (Jeannine), Lawrence “Butch”, Dorothy, Janet (Keith), Rosemarie (Alfred), Monica (Bob), Theresa; many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Gabby was predeceased by sisters, Joan and Catherine; brother, Bernard. Visitation will be held from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Monday January 16, 2012 in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax. A funeral mass followed by a reception will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday January 17, 2012 at St. Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church, Father James Mallon officiating.
