<div itemprop="description">Vatcher, Claude Robert <br />It is with great sadness the family of Claude Vatcher, age 87 of Kingston (formerly of Halifax) announces his passing on May 11, 2014 in the Veterans Wing of Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Burgeo, NL, he was the son of the late Joseph and Fanny (Foote) Vatcher. In 1942, at age 16, he first sailed to North Sydney and as a landed immigrant of Canada he took the train to Halifax to join the Merchant Marines, He sailed on the ships Cyrus Field and Lord Kelvin as a deck hand repairing underwater communication cables. After the war, he stayed at sea, sailing out of Halifax to as far as the Caribbean. In Halifax, he met his future wife Doris (Munro) at a wrestling match at the Halifax Forum and were married November 4, 1950. He left the sea life in 1966 and worked in the rigging shop at HMC Dockyard for 30 years and retired at age 69. He loved hunting and fishing (especially back in NL) and enjoyed most Saturday afternoons &ldquo;relaxing&rdquo; at the Greco Club with the boys. When he moved to Kingston, he joined the Legion, branch #98, where he looked forward to the Thursday night crib games. He was predeceased by his wife Doris, brothers Lou and Onslow and son David. He is survived by his son Robert (Carol) of Moncton, NB and daughter Carole (Neil) of Kingston; grandsons Shawn and Jonathan: granddaughters Melissa and Amanda; great granddaughters Jyana and Ema and great grandson Spencer. Special thanks to the nursing staff at the Veteran&rsquo;s Wing for their excellent care of Claude. <br />Cremation has taken place and a visitation for Claude will be held on Wednesday May 14, 2014 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm with a memorial service on Thursday May 15th at 11am. Both will be from the Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd. Halifax. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Veteran&rsquo;s Wing of Soldiers Memorial Hospital.
