Daryl Lloyd Kay
December 16, 1945 - February 10, 2015
“The rule of my life is to make business my pleasure and pleasure my business” D.L Kay 1963
Daryl Lloyd Kay
Of Halifax, peacefully surrounded by the love of his family, Daryl slipped into the presence of his Lord and savior on February 10th, 2015 at the age of 69.
Beloved husband and best friend of Dianne (Clory), the beautiful girl of his dreams that he married 49 years ago. Devoted and dedicated Father of Debbie Kay (Jeff Gardner) and Carrie Dewar (Peter). “Poppy” will be sadly missed by his Granddaughters Baillie, Maggie and Bobbie. Big brother Daryl is survived by his Brothers; Jimmy (Charmane), Buz (Janet), Jeffrey (Lori) and Steven; Sister, Susan Delahunt (Dave) and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Daryl was born in Saint John, N.B. and was the son of the late Lloyd and Roberta (Hughson) Kay and grew up in Shannon Park/Wallace Heights in Dartmouth.
Daryl began his 45 year career with the Bank of Montreal in Halifax in 1965 and moved up the ranks while transferring the family around Atlantic Canada. Daryl was a successful executive yet at the end of the day was a regular approachable guy with a wicked sense of humor and a generous heart.
He was a member of several clubs and associations including Rotary Club. He was especially passionate about his involvement in community activities, events and fundraising.
Daryl was very athletic. He excelled in many sports including golf, racquet ball, basketball and curling. He was very competitive and took pleasure in beating younger opponents and his brothers. He loved to make people laugh and would entertain them with pranks and tricks that he perfected or created himself. Many will remember his alter egos “Yo-Yo Man” and “The Great Houdini”.
Many Thanks to the staff of Northwood’s 8 Center who were dedicated to his care while he courageously battled Parkinson’s and showed great kindness and compassion to the family during this difficult time.
Visitation will be from 2-4, and 6-8 Wednesday February 18 at Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Road, Halifax. A funeral service will be held in the chapel Thursday February 19 at 11 AM.
Donations may be made to the Parkinson Society- Maritime Region and are greatly appreciated.
