Our hearts are saddened by the passing of Francis Edward ``Frank`` Arab who passed away peacefully on October 9, 2011 at the Halifax Infirmary with his loving family present at the age of 85. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late James and Rachede Arab. A graduate of Saint Mary’s University, Frank was a career civil servant and retired from the Department of National Defence at age 65. As much as he enjoyed his working life, music was his vocation and passion. He was encouraged from an early age to develop his musical talent, and used his gift to enrich the lives of so many. He made a point of generously donating his time to community service across the municipality, for which he received an HRM Community Service Award. Frank was recognized by the Canadian Red Cross for his many years of regular blood donations. He was a member of the Halifax Knights of Columbus Council 1097. Frank was a life time member of the North American Musicians Union. He was honoured to be chosen as the recipient of the 2010 Emigrant of the Year Award by the Canadian Lebanon Society. Frank’s ties to the Lebanese community were strong, and he enjoyed nothing better than sharing a Lebanese meal with family and friends. Frank’s Roman Catholic faith was a cornerstone of his life, and his music ministry was very important to him. He was a familiar and welcome face to the residents of many Halifax nursing homes providing them with countless hours of entertainment and comfort. Frank had a faithful following at various venues where he shared his music and considered his fans as his friends. He enjoyed traveling and made many trips to Europe, Florida and especially treasured the memory of his trip to Lebanon. Frank was a humble and generous man whose acts of kindness can never be numbered.
He is survived by his loving children Gregory (Bev Robert), Cheryl (Brian McKenzie), Catherine (Eric Richards), and beloved grandchildren Amy and Andrew Richards. He is also survived by sisters Kathleen ``Jennie`` Haywood and Catherine Cable, and brother Joseph (Neva) Arab.
