<div itemprop="description">Sweet, Gerald R. 83 of Halifax passed away peacefully January 30, 2017 at Ivany Place. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Gordon and Edith (Dickens) Sweet. Gerald worked for Maritime Photo Engravers for 43 years retiring in 1994. He was an avid sports fan. In his earlier years Gerald played softball and baseball for various leagues in Halifax. He was a huge hockey fan, loving his Montreal Canadians and being one of the first season ticket holders of the Halifax Mooseheads. Gerald enjoyed many happy years camping with his family, walking and later on loved his yearly vacations to Florida with his wife Margaret. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret (Day); son, Wayne (Karen MacRury-Sweet); daughter, Gail (Larry) MacInnis; grandchildren, Christopher MacInnis, Matthew MacInnis, Sarah MacInnis, Allison Sweet; six greatgrandchildren; sister, Gladys Marryatt as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth; sister, Sylvia Slaunwhite as well as another brother and sister in infancy. Visitation will be held 7-9pm Thursday, February 2 in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Road. Funeral service will take place 11am Friday, February 3 at St. James Anglican Church (Armdale Rotary) where a reception will follow. Burial will be in Oakridge Memory Gardens, Middle Sackville. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to St. James Anglican Church, 2668 Joseph Howe Drive, Halifax, NS, B3L 4E4.
