Gloria Patricia LaVoie
August 17, 1936 - October 10, 2015
LaVoie, Gloria Patricia – 79 of Halifax passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, October 10. She was the third eldest daughter of the late Ingles George and Leona Pearl (nee Publicover) Slaunwhite.
Gloria loved spending time with her sisters and their families. Often reminiscing about the wonderful summers they spent growing up as young girls in Terrance Bay.
Gloria enjoyed music, old movies and could often be heard singing in the kitchen. She was a great daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and friend. Gloria’s favourite times were the holidays, when she was surrounded by the people she loved most in the world.
Gloria is survived by her sons; Louis, Tony, John and Rick; grandchildren, Nichole Burkheart, John David LaVoie and Christopher Mark LaVoie; sisters, Carol (John) Sullivan, Phyllis Connors, Sandra (Robert) Murphy, Glenda (Laurie) LaViolette and Wanda (James) Powers; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her best friend and companion, Gary Oivanen; sisters, Marilyn, Joan and Joyce and her niece, Carolyn Fredericks.
Visitations will be held Thursday, October 15, 2015 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., and a celebration of Gloria’s life will take place on Friday, October 16, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Atlantic Funeral Home located at 6552 Bayers Road, Halifax.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia, the Canadian Cancer Society of Nova Scotia or a charity of choice.
