Harold Mombourquette
October 29, 1934 - December 9, 2013
Mombourquette, Harold James - Oct. 29.1934 - Dec. 9 2013
Harry, as he was known to most, passed away peacefully in his family home of 44 years with his loving wife Jeanette (Deschetza) by his side. They had recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. He is survived by daughter, Debra (Christopher) Grantham and her children Stephanie and Elizabeth and son Greg (Julene) Mombourquette and his children Rogan and Elena. Harold was predeceased by two of his children, Suzanne Carol and Peter Jeffery Mombourquette.
Born in Halifax and growing up downtown with his parents Harold and Marie E. (Stella) (Bouffard) Mombourquette, Harry was the third eldest of seven children: Raymond (Irene) Mombourquette, Halifax, Mildred (Don) Ross, Exeter, Ont., Ronald (Patricia) Mombourquette, Dartmouth, Gerald Mombourquette, Halifax. Predeceased by John Mombourquette, Roy Mombourquette, and Shirley Wilson.
Harry was a hard worker even as a kid. He sold newspapers to the numerous navy servicemen from the ships that would come to port as well as his regular paper routes. As a young man, Harry started his career as an agent in the insurance business that would last 41 years. His long career was with Pearl, MacDermaid, Global, Trask and finally with Anthony Sedgwick Insurance. During this time he was also an active member of the Insurance Blue Goose Fraternity receiving prestigious awards such as Life Time Member status.
He also loved to bowl in the insurance bowling league as a young man. After collecting numerous trophies he took up curling at the Mayflower Curling Club for twenty years. During that time he not only curled, but helped out with any fun or crazy themed club events and ran bonspiels. Harry enjoyed watching hockey, CFL, baseball and old westerns. He was good at playing cards, darts, snooker, golf and woodworking. In his retirement years, everybody in the neighbourhood knew Harry, with his white coat and blazing white sneakers and signature mesh hats! Coined the "The Duke" Harry knew all the children, dogs, cats, and neighbours on the street. You could almost set your watch in the evening by him heading to Caesars for his evening ice cream. He dearly loved his four grandchildren and kept a treasure trove of their favourite chocolate bars to give to them when they visited.
In lieu of flowers please give to your favorite charity.
A special thank you to the great staff at the VON, Northwood Homecare, and Palliative Care (CHIPCS).
Funeral will be held at Saint Catherine of Siena Church, 6476 Bayers Rd., Tuesday December 17, at 11:00 am. Reception to follow in the Church Hall. On line condolences www atlanticfuneralhomes.com (Halifax chapel)
