O'Brien, Harrison William Jr. - 60, of Halifax, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 26, 2012 after a series of illnesses, bravely met but ultimately too strong to overcome. He was the elder son of loving parents Harrison Sr. and Marguerite (Haley) O'Brien. Harrison attended St. Patrick's High School, met his wife Gillian in Grade 11, and graduated with honours. He attended St. Mary's University on a scholarship. His career was with the Federal Government, first as an inspector with Consumer and Corporate Affairs then in Quality Assurance with DND. During this time, he served as regional vice president of the PSAC for 9 years. He liked a good argument and loved to be right - and he usually was. He had many interests throughout his life including curling, hockey, baseball, golf, darts, snooker, motorcycles, boats, tropical fish, photography, computers, watching the Mooseheads play and tipping a few at the old Windsor Park Mess (vodka & water, touch of 7, no ice). He loved to shop and if one item was a bargain, then two of them was an even better deal. His two daughters were the loves of his life. Harrison was the nucleus of his family and the other half of his wife's soul. His passing has left a void in our hearts that will never be filled. He was predeceased by his uncle Gordon Haley. Besides his parents, he leaves behind his beloved wife Gillian (Rutherford), daughters Jacquelyn (Greg Morris) and Jennifer (Jim) Grace, brother Robert (Colleen) O'Brien, uncle Harold (Jackie) Haley, aunt Rosemary Haley, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws. The family extends a warm thanks to the staff of the Infirmary, the VG and the VON for their wonderful care. Special thanks to Dr. Morzycki for his personal attention and encouragement. Visitation will be on Wed., Aug. 1 from 2-4 and 6-8 at Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Road. A service will be held in the chapel on Thurs. Aug 2 at 2 pm. Cremation has taken place and private interment will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation to the charity of your choice.
