Howard Aubrey Dobson

Passed away Monday January 26th in the Veterans Memorial Building, Camp Hill Hospital in his 90th year.
Born May 28, 1925 in Moncton NB to the late Aubrey Preston and Sadie Viola Dobson (nee Penrose) Howard was a much loved only child. Howard graduated from Moncton High and joined the Army as soon as he could, serving with dedication until mustered out at the end of the war. Lucky in love Howard met and married Phyllis Crocker, the mother of his children and was devoted to her until her death in 1997. His luck held when he met a dear friend from Moncton days and in 2001 he and Greta Baltzer were married and shared twelve happy years before Greta’s death in 2013. Howard was a salesman, “the best job in the world, because someone is always selling something to someone”. However in addition to his work he believed in service to the community. For over 40 years he spent every Monday night at the IWK, building furniture for disabled children with his fellow Rotarians. He was a member of Bethany United Church and served on most committees over the years, rarely missing a Sunday service. In his early days he was on the board of the YMCA and later he joined Rotary Club and was named a Paul Harris Fellow for his dedication and hard work on behalf of the club. Howard considered every day a gift and was always happy and optimistic. He treasured his family, friends and his faith and he set a positive example for all who knew him. Howard will be missed by his cousins Peg Topping, Don Thurston and Barbara Adams and their families all of Ontario and the many good friends he made throughout his long and happy life.
Howard is survived by his children Karin and her son Cooper Tardivel, Kim and his wife Cheryl and their children Joey and Emily, Kathy and her husband David and their daughter Mallory. The family would like to thank the staff of Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Building, 6th floor Jubillee West for the care and attention they gave Howard during his time there and the comfort they extended to our family in his last days.
There will be a visitation held Friday, January 30th from 7-9 at Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayer’s Road, Halifax, NS. The funeral service will be held at Bethany United Church Saturday, January 31st at 2pm. Rev.Vincent Ihasz officiating. Family flowers only; donations can be made in Howard’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia or The Last Post Fund. Howard, Howie, Dad, Yaya, Granddad.” By all the names we knew him he will be missed. A truly good man.

Give our regards to Broadway Dad.
