Irene Theresa Kinsman
September 11, 1921 - September 7, 2014
KINSMAN, Irene Theresa (Twohig), age 92 of Halifax, passed away peacefully on Sunday September 7, 2014 in the Abbie J. Lane Memorial Building, QEII. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Mary Twohig. She married the love of her life, John, in 1949, and together they raised their five children. Irene was employed by Sears Canada for more than 20 years in customer service. She faithfully attended St. Theresa’s Parish for many years, where she and John sang in the choir and took part in a few musicals. In her later years, she enjoyed living in Cornwallis Morneau Lodge, Halifax, where she enjoyed spending time with her friends playing cards, Rumoli, Cribbage and Bingo. She also enjoyed the many teas, barbeques and social times with the members of the Friendship Club. Thank you to all who were kind and helpful to Mom in her years there. Irene was predeceased by her husband John Patrick (1987); son, Douglas (2010); brothers, Francis, Arthur, Raymond, Ronald and Kenneth; sisters, Mary, Lillian and Margaret; son in law, Grant Boyle.
Irene is survived by her sons, Patrick (Margaret);and Gregory (Sherrill); daughters, Catherine Boyle and Jennifer (Allan) Blenkhorn; daughter in law, Cheryl; brothers, Basil and Robert (Aileen) Twohig; grandchildren, Steven , Megan, Paul, John, Natalie and Angela Kinsman, Deborah (Peter) Stitchman, Laura (Michael) Fisher, Janice Boyle, Timothy and Kimberley Blenkhorn. She dearly loved her three great-grandsons, Benjamin Fisher, Maxwell and Alexander Stitchman. Visitation will be held on Wednesday September 10th 2-4, 7-9pm at Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd. Funeral service will take place on Thursday September 11th at 10:30am at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 6476 Bayers Rd. Burial to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope Cottage or The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada.
We would like to thank the doctors and nurses of 9 Lane, especially Candace, Deborah, Azeb, and Sandra, as well as Dr. Paige Moorhouse and resident Jeremy Stringer. Also, the paramedics and emergency room staff at the QEII hospital and family doctor, Dr. Doane. We are so grateful for your kindness and compassion.
