James Leonard Embree 1923 - 2016
We mourn the passing of James Leonard Embree, who died Sunday, October 2, 2016 in his 93rd year. After a brief stay at the hospital, Leonard spent his last days at Ivany Place nursing home, Halifax, Nova Scotia. Born July 2, 1923, he was the son of Nelson and Theresa Embree of Port Hawkesbury. He was an Industrial Arts teacher with the Halifax School Board. One of his passions was sailing. With his best friend, Aubrey McLean, he built a 19 foot sailboat which he sailed for 17 years.
He was pre deceased by his first wife Kathleen Mary (Dower) after 48 years of marriage, his only son The Honourable Judge John D. Embree, and his second wife Eunice Blair Weatherdon after 16 years of marriage. Survived by his daughter-in-law Jo-Anne Embree, grandchildren Robert Embree, Ottawa, and Rachel Embree, Halifax. Also survived by his nieces Shirley Smith, Port Hood, Louise Wallace, Truro and their families as well as nieces Emily Oldenburg, Patricia Paraschak and Laura Sykes of Ontario.
Visitation will be held at Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Road, Halifax, on Wednesday, October 5th, from 10-11 am. A private family service will be held. Interment in Oakridge Memory Gardens.
