<div itemprop="description"> <p> <strong> COOTE, Joan Ann </strong> -76 of Halifax, passed peacefully to her heavenly home on September 28, 2012 at Ivany Place in Bedford. Joan was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Mae (Artz) Mitchell; husband, Cyril; son, Ronald. She is survived by her son, Brian (Joan); grandchildren, Gregory &amp; Ashley; stepdaughter, Darlene; great grandchildren, Katie &amp; Marcus, St. John&rsquo;s NL; son, Paul (Wendy) ;grandchildren, Joshua &amp; Holly, Stillwater Lake, NS.; brothers, Frank (Mary), Richmond Corner, NB, David (Hazel), Scottsdale, Arizona; sister in law, June Coote, Mahone Bay, NS; several nieces and nephews. Joan was very committed to her Church and family and very active in children&rsquo;s ministries including Pioneer Girls, Olympics and Awana Clubs. She was also a long time member of the Christian Women&rsquo;s Club of Halifax in which she did a variety of speaking engagements with other Clubs throughout North America and even served a term as Chairman. In her early years Joan was primarily a homemaker and later in life she worked in retail sales. Joan always enjoyed being very active, and loved to golf and curl, and especially loved her time spent on the water sailing on board &ldquo;Shalimar&rdquo; through out Nova Scotia with her beloved First mate Cyril and their winter times in Florida. In the early 90&rsquo;s she was diagnosed with Parkinson&rsquo;s disease in which she battled courageously for almost 20 years until her death. In her final years Joan resided at The Berkeley in Bedford and most recently was a resident of Schooner Landing at Ivany Place in Bedford. Joan&rsquo;s family especially would like to acknowledge and thank the staff of professional caregivers at Ivany Place for their outstanding care and devotion Mom received which made her life more comfortable. A service of remembrance and celebration of Joan&rsquo;s life will take place on Thursday October 11th, at 2:00pm at Sheffield Baptist Church, 80 Lincoln Cross Drive, Halifax, Pastor Lawrence Meade officiating.
