Kenneth John Orchard
May 20, 1927 - July 21, 2015
ORCHARD, Kenneth John - 88, of Halifax, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at the Veteran’s Memorial Hospital with family at his side. Born in Niagara Falls, Ontario, he was the son of the late Gilbert and Edith (Potter) Orchard. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy at the age of 17, served in the Korean War from 1952-1953 and retired after 25 years with the rank of Master Warrant Officer. After the navy, he was employed with Oland’s Brewery for 19 years and retired at the age of 61. He is survived by his wife, Bertha (Martell) of 65 years; son, Derrick (Faithe); granddaughter, Brittany (Emmett); sister, Pam; son-in-law, Paul (Ellen). Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Darlene; brother-in-law, Rod. Ken was a great handy-man, gardener and huge Halifax Moosehead’s fan. His constant smile and kind nature made him a wonderful father/grandfather and devoted husband; he will be missed by many. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 2-4, 7-9 pm Monday, July 27 at Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd, from where a funeral service will take place 10 am Tuesday, July 28, 2015, with reception to follow. Burial will take place at Mount Olivet Cemetery following reception. We would like to thank the staff at the Veteran’s Memorial and 9 Abbey Lane for their exceptional care given to Ken. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ken can be made to the Veteran’s Memorial Hospital.
