Marie M. Buckland
August 28, 1949 - August 13, 2016
Marie Margaret Buckland
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Marie (Vergie) Buckland, 66, of Chester announces her sudden passing on August 13th, 2016 at the QEII Health Sciences Centre. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late William and Phyllis (Lowe) Vergie. Marie was a genuine, selfless person who devoted her life to helping and caring for others. This was evident early on as she chose a career in nursing and graduated as a CNA from Camp Hill School of Nursing. Her most treasured job was that of wife, mother and "nanny". Marie was a teacher at heart. Later in life, she obtained her Early Childhood Diploma and spent many years as an Early Childhood Educator. She was a devoted wife and partner to her "once in a lifetime love" Fred. Marie was a natural caregiver and cherished her time and weekly adventures with her seven grandchildren. She had many great friends and was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi Laureate Epsilon Chapter. Marie cherished the days at her "lakehouse". Time was spent hosting family parties, reading, playing cards, drinking tea and enjoying the beauty of the lake, things that provided her much happiness. She looked forward to winter months spent in Florida with her husband and friends. She is survived and will be sadly missed by her husband Fred of 44 years, sons Todd and Sean, daughters Sarah (Jeff) Stevens and Anna (Chris) MacIntyre, grandchildren Matthew, Hayley, Oliver, Finlay, Maeve, Avery and Griffin and sisters Gwendolyn (Mike) Cadue, and Karen (the late Drew) Curlett. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Meghan, Kyle, and Tara. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of 5.2 ICU who helped in Marie’s care and well-being. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. Funeral Service will take place at Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Road, Halifax on Friday, August 19, 10:00 a.m. Private family committal will follow at St. John’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.atlanticfuneralhomes.com Halifax Chapel.
