Mary Catherine Forbes (Kay, Katie) passed away peacefully at the Infirmary on Friday evening (September 26th) surrounded by family.
Katie was 84 years old, born on July 5, 1930 to Gregory McCarron (New Glasgow) and Julia Furlotte (Jaquet River, NB). She was a lifelong resident of Halifax where she grew up with her older brother Owen and younger sister June (James) MacLeod.
Loving husband, Harry, preceded her in death on April 10, 1977 and Katie's life revolved around raising her family. She did so with unfailing love ‎and took great‎ pride in her 9 children, 20 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren (who knew her affectionately as "Nan" or "Nanny-Kate").
With so much family and even more friends, Katie spent a lot of time on the phone and became an email expert to stay in touch. She enjoyed having visitors too, unless they conflicted with Sunday Mass or bingo at St. Agnes.
Katie is survived by her children Sandra MacPherson of Stratford, PEI, Shirley of Halifax, Diane (Gary) Sutherland of Halifax, Darlene (Gary) Rossong of Lower Sackville, Debra Forbes of Halifax, Sharon (Vern Welton) of Halifax, Harry (Nancy) of Halifax, Robert (Paulette) of Oakville, ON, and Trina (Troy) Crosby of Cole Harbour.
She is preceded in death by infant daughter Kathleen, infant grandson Stephen, infant granddaughter Julia, infant great-grandson, Michael, son-in-law J.D. MacPherson (PEI), brother-in-law James, and brother Owen.
"I'll see you when you get here."
Visitation will be held at the Atlantic Funeral Home 6552 Bayers Rd. Halifax on Monday September 29th, 2014 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm
‎Funeral services are schedule for 11:00am on September 30th at St. Agnes Church on Mumford Rd. Atlantic Funeral Homes is handling funeral arrangements (902-453-1434 and www.atlanticfuneralhomes.com).
Burial will take place following the Funeral mass at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Lower Sackville.
To honour Katie, memorial donations can be made in lieu of flowers to The War Amps (www.waramps.ca or 800.456.2677) or KidSport Nova Scotia (www.kidsportcanada.ca or 902.425.5450).
