Mary Jane Jamieson
June 12, 1916 - March 19, 2017
Mary Jane (Fitzgerald) Jamieson, – Stewiacke, N.S., formerly of Queensport, Guysborough County, N.S.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother who passed away peacefully at home on March 19, 2017, at the age of 100 years.
Born on June 12, 1916, in Queensport, Guysborough County, she was the daughter of the late Minnie (MacIsaac) and James Fitzgerald.
She is survived by son, Clinton (Donna) (Truro), daughters: Patsy (Bobby) Imlay (Boylston), Linda (Halifax) and Susan, (Stewiacke), brother, Gerald (Guysborough) and sister-in-law, Millie, nieces and nephews, as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mary lived most of her life in Guysborough County, moving to Halifax 25 years ago. She was a very independent woman and maintained her own apartment up to a few years ago. Mary dedicated her long life to raising her family and found great joy in spending time with them. She was a devoted Catholic and attended mass on a regular basis in her earlier years. Mary enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and always gave selflessly to anyone in need. Mary had a great sense of humour and always enjoyed a good joke. Mary was an active person who enjoyed her walks which helped to keep her active and contributed greatly to her long and healthy life. She enjoyed experiencing new things and had a great love for fiddle music. Mary enjoyed doing crafts and crossword puzzles in her earlier years, and was very competitive when it came to finishing the Lexicon in the Chronicle Herald before her family and friends. She enjoyed making quilts and made some beautiful ones for her family members. Mary was a loving person and a friend to all who knew her and she will be sorely missed.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Clifford, sons: Carman, Sherman and Charles and infant daughters, Anne and Ruby, sisters: Theresa, Hazel, Winnie, Margaret, and brothers: Edward, Robert, Hughie.
A special thank you is extended to the VON workers who helped care for Mom which allowed her to remain in her home.
In keeping with Mom’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private family graveside service will be held in Guysborough at a later date.
If so desired, donations in Mary’s memory may be made to the VON or a charity of your choice. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.atlanticfuneralhomes.com, Halifax Chapel.
Goodbye my family, my life is past
I loved you all to the very last
Weep not for me, but courage take
Love each other for my sake
For those you love don’t go away
They walk beside you every day
