<div itemprop="description"> <p> Riggs, Collins, (Wagg) Maude Alberta &ndash; 84, of Halifax passed away peacefully on February 21st, 2013 at the Northwood Centre &nbsp;in Halifax. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and sister who will be deeply missed by her children Larry Collins of Halifax and Nancy (Collins) Nearing of Bedford and Jim Collins of Calgary, AB; her grandchildren, James and Michael Nearing of Bedford and Stephanie, Sean and Chris Collins, Calgary, AB; her son-in-law Pat Nearing of Bedford and daughter-in-law Trish Collins of Calgary and her sisters Evelyn Westcott of Orilla, Ontario and Beulah Gordon of Deer Lake, Newfoundland. </p> <p> &nbsp; </p> <p> Maude was born November 16, 1928 in Stepaside, Burin, Newfoundland. She was the oldest daughter of the late Eli and Stella Wagg and sister of the late Tom Wagg and Shirley Pelley of Deer Lake Newfoundland.&nbsp; She was also pre-deceased by her first husband Roy Collins in 1973 and her second husband James Riggs in 1990. </p> <p> &nbsp; </p> <p> Maude came to Halifax in 1945 and resided in Halifax and Bedford during her lifetime. As a homemaker during her adult life, she was a loving wife, exceptional mother, devoted grandmother and dedicated her life and energy to family. &nbsp;She never forgot birthdays and special occasions and always put others ahead of herself. &nbsp;Maude especially enjoyed Newfoundland music, dancing and lobster dinners.&nbsp;&nbsp; She showed tremendous strength in beating cancer many years ago and lived a full and rich life up until the last year when she faced a number of health challenges that she faced with incredible courage. &nbsp; </p> <p> <br /> Our family would like to thank her caregiver and good friend Holly Miner for her compassionate care of our mother. We&rsquo;d also like to thank the care providers and staff of 9 Abbie Lane Hospital and the Northwood Centre. As well, we would like to recognize the friends she made during this time, especially Maria, Betty, Pat and Dot. </p> <p> &nbsp; </p> <p> A visitation will be held on Sunday February 24, 2013 from 4 &ndash; 7pm at Atlantic Funeral Home 6552 Bayers Rd. Halifax where a funeral service will be held at 11am on Monday February 25, 2013. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society and the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
