<div itemprop="description">Downey, William Joseph &ndash; 82, born in North Preston, NS January 10th, 1932 to the late Thomas Downey and the late Pearl (Grant-Downey) Sparks passed away at Northwood Centre, Halifax location on May 16th, 2014. William was a porter for VIA Rail for 25 years before retiring. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years Roberta (Howe) Downey Halifax; daughters Stephanie (Tony) Ottawa, Leanne (Walter) Halifax, Darlene (Daryl) Toronto; sons, Greg (Cheryl) Halifax, Royce (Rose) Dartmouth, Brian (Hope) Truro and Stacey, Calgary; sisters, Genevieve, Thelma, Phyllis and Margaret; brothers, Albert, Carl and Deacon Ralph; 17 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by son William Jr &ldquo;Billy&rdquo;; sisters Lou-May, Delores, Ivory, Mauretta, Josephine, Beatrice, Hilda, Pearl, Laura and Gracie; brothers James, Raymond, Lawrence Albert, and Douglas. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 20, 2014 from 7-9pm with a Men&rsquo;s Brotherhood service at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 633 Pockwock Rd, Upper Hammonds Plains where funeral service will take place Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 1pm. Interment to follow at Oakridge Memory Gardens, Lower Sackville. Arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Road, Halifax. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Deacon Emeritus William Downey to Emmanuel Baptist Church Building Fund.
