<div itemprop="description">FONG, Ming-93, of Halifax, passed away Wednesday February 11, 2015, peacefully at home. He was the beloved husband of Yuet (Lam) Fong for the last 69 years. Born in Guangdong Province, China, he was the son of the late Yu Sin (Tam) and Quon Fong who founded the original Garden View restaurant on Spring Garden Road. Ming was a devoted father and husband. As a young man, he survived seven years in a POW camp in Malaysia during WWII. Ming travelled to Canada in 1956 to work with his father at the restaurant on Spring Garden Road. Over the years, he operated several successful restaurants and business ventures with the Fong family. He was a man of integrity who was well respected in the community and known for his charitable generosity. He was a talented musician and played violin and banjo. He was a performer in the Chinese opera. His interests included photography, 8mm filming, calligraphy and automobiles. He enjoyed weekly mah-jong games with family and friends. He was a former treasurer and elder member of the Chinese Benevolent Society. Loving father of Frank (Lily), Richard (Lisa), Regan (Angie), James (Carol); grandfather of Robert (April), John (Joanne), Michael, Megan, Brian, Steven (Rose), Justin and Jacob; great grandfather of Tyler. Visitation will be held on Monday February 16 from 2-4 and 7-9pm in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayer&rsquo;s Road, Halifax. The Memorial service will take place on Tuesday February 17th at 11 am in the funeral home chapel.
