<div itemprop="description">MASON, Murray Allan (&ldquo;Joe&rdquo;)<br /><br />Age 96, of Halifax, passed away peacefully into the arms of his Lord on November 8, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Born on September 18, 1919, on Tancook Island, he was the second youngest son of the late Howard and Bridget (Langille) Mason.<br /><br />He worked as a shipwright and boat builder for many companies over the years and also served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War. He retired in 1984 from the HMC Dockyard after 34 years of service. Murray loved sailing and building schooners with his father and brothers. He was an accomplished carpenter and woodworker who generously gave of his talents to his family and friends well into his later years. Murray was a faithful long-time member of West End Baptist Church and served for many years on the Board of Trustees, Ushers, and Tellers Committees.He was so very proud of his family who will cherish and miss him dearly.He is survived by his children, Sharon and Norman Wiens of Dartmouth, Glenda and Howie Bennett, Kathryn and Bradley Gillie, and Steven, all of Halifax. Beloved grandchildren are Alana Wiens, Craig and Tonya Bennett, Bryan and Amy Wiens, Noelle and Ren&eacute; T&eacute;ni&egrave;re, Matthew Bennett, Stephanie Gillie, Robyn and David Kehoe, and Chris Bennett. He was a loving &ldquo;Grampie Joe&rdquo; to his great-grandchildren Jewel, Malik, Myla, Lauren, David, Kaitlyn, Michaela and Mason. He is also survived by his sister, Dora Cross of Chester as well as many nieces and nephews.He was predeceased by his loving wife of 52 years, Thelma (Stevens) as well as 11 brothers and 8 sisters.Visitation will be on Thursday, November 12 from 6:30 - 9:00 p.m. at Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Road in Halifax. Funeral service will be on Friday, November 13 at 1:30 p.m. at West End Baptist Church, 1986 Preston Street in Halifax, followed by committal at Fairview Lawn Cemetery. The family asks for no scents please at the visitation and funeral.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to West End Baptist Church, or a charity of choice. The family would especially like to thank the doctors and nurses of the Halifax Infirmary Emergency Department and Cardiac Care Unit for their exceptional care, compassion, and guidance at a very difficult time in our lives.<br /></div>
