<div itemprop="description"><br />Garonis, Nick Age 58, passed away August 12, 2015 at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax. Born on April 10, 1957, in Papari, Tripoli, Greece, he was the son of the late Panayiotis and Vasiliki Garonis. Nick immigrated to Canada in November 1975. In 1979, Nick became owner of the King of Donair Franchise and for the next 24 years successfully expanded across the Maritimes, until selling it in 2003. Nick and his former business partner, Takis Mitropoulos, along with many others, founded the King of Donair Soccer Team. Since Nick&rsquo;s reign, the team had made it to the provincial championships every year for 20 years, including the 2001 championship. Nick and the KOD Soccer Team have had much success, making all Nova Scotians proud and, in turn, were honoured by being inducted into the NS Hall of Fame IN 2012. Nick&rsquo;s family is very proud of him and the strength he showed, until the very end, while battling his illness. Nick can be remembered as a genuine, loving person, who helped impact the culture of the city of Halifax. He is survived by his wife Vicky Garonis, his sons, Panayiotis Peter Garonis and Vasili Garonis. His sister, Aggeliki Garonis Raftopoulou and brother-in-law Kostas Raftopoulos (Tripoli, Greece), Athanasios (Tom) and Georgina (deceased) Lozos (Halifax), his mother-in-law, Eugenia Vavaroutsou, brother and sister-in-law John and Dimtra (Toula) Theoharopoulos (Halifax). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and family throughout Greece, Canada and the United States. Many thanks to his family doctor and his team, the doctors and nurses at the VG hospital, the Dixon building, the Cobequid Center and the QEII for their kindness and support. Visitation will be held 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, August 13th, in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax. The funeral service will held 1 p.m. Friday, August 14, in St. George&rsquo;s Greek Orthodox Church, Purcell&rsquo;s Cove Rd., Halifax, burial in Fairview Lawn Cemetery. Donations can be made to the St. George&rsquo;s Greek Orthodox Church and/or the Cancer Society. <br /></div>
