Okiya Okeny

Okeny, Okiya, 53, of Halifax, passed away November 15th, 2013 was born in Palwar Village, South Sudan, Africa. Okiya was a learned man, educated in South Sudan and Canada. He received several bachelor and master degrees. He spoke fluent Acholi, Swahili, Italian, Arabic, and English. His command of English and his powerful insights are reflected in his many writings. Okiya is survived by his son, Otema, siblings, nieces and nephews in Africa.
He was predeceased by his parents, sister and older brother in Sudan. Funeral service will be held at 11am on Monday November 25th at the Atlantic Funeral Home 6552 Bayers Rd. with Rev. James Haughn officiating. Burial will be held immediately after the service at Oakridge Memory Gardens, Lower Sackville.
Donations may be made to a charity to educate children in South Sudan. Our special and grateful thanks go to Social Services, medical staff at the QE II Hospital, Julie, Margaret and his many caring friends.
