Robert "Bob" Butler
September 25, 1924 - April 22, 2014
BUTLER, William Robert English (Bob) – 89 Halifax passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 in 9 Abbey Lane. Born in Musgrave Harbor, NL, he was the son of the late William and Gertrude (English) Butler. He is survived by his daughters, Brenda (Ian Watt), Halifax; Trudi, (Steve Palmer) Saint John, Patti (Richard Quinn), Falmouth: Margot Butler-Miller (Andrew Miller) Halifax: grandchildren Robert Watt (Patricia Luke), Gwendolyn Watt (Johnny Heighton) Lisa Gagnon ( Joel), Brian Palmer, Nicholas Palmer, Angie Pearson (Chris), Tony Quinn (Melissa), Paulina, Becky, Andrea and Richard Miller, great grandchildren, Fiona and Elle Gagnon, Samantha, Jordyn and Ross Pearson, Bristol Quinn; brother, Hearder (Louise), sister Dorothy Clark. Bob was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Bina Butler and his sister Margaret Hollett. He graduated in 1953 from Dalhousie University with a major in Philosophy. Post graduate studies included Psychology and Theology. His career spanned 36 years of Social Work as a consultant to numerous Community Based Services. Highlights are, the YMCA, Canadian Paraplegic Association-Atlantic Region, CAMR including the establishment of King’s Meadows Residence and the Nova Scotia Family and Child Welfare Association. He loved spending time with his girls and later enjoyed the company of his many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bob was passionate about convertibles and enjoyed building anything! Special thanks to Dr. Terrance Higgins, Dr. Mallory and the staff of the Abbie J. Lane 9th floor Geriatric ward. Family and friends will be received at Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayer’s Rd., Halifax, on Thursday May 1 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held at the same location, Friday May 2, at 10AM. Private family interment will be held later.
