MacEachern, Roderick Daniel, 104 years
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our dad, Rod. He died peacefully on May 10, 2016 surrounded by his family.
He was the son of the late Angus and Rachael MacEachern of Port Hood, Cape Breton. Rod was a loving father to children, Rod (Carol), Dartmouth, Patricia “Patti”, Dartmouth, Cathy Rae (John), Dartmouth, Angus, Halifax, and Michael, Halifax. Also his daughter by choice, Sandy Crawford, Dartmouth, and grandchildren Tom (Kristen), Rachel and David, and great granddaughters, Morgan and Rory. He was predeceased by his wife Mary “Isabel” (Beaton) of 55 years, and siblings, Mary Belle, Angus Hughie, Sally, Marie, Bill, Don, Stephen and Lawrence “Lonnie”.
Rod talked fondly of his beloved Port Hood, Cape Breton and would often recall his days of fishing with his dad and uncle on Henry Island. In his late 20’s, he moved to Halifax where he met his wife Isabel, married and raised his family. He enjoyed his many years of working in the Halifax Dockyard as a Superintendent in the Planning and Development department where he remained for 35 years.
Dad was a man of strong faith and was a member of Saint Catherine's Parish for 55 years. He enjoyed vegetable gardening and was a real handy man. He got a lot of satisfaction from fixing things around the house (sometimes with his own peculiar inventions). He also enjoyed listening to his Cape Breton fiddle music and keeping up with current events. Dad's quick wit and his wonderful sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him. We were so blessed to have dad as a part of our lives for so long. We love you dad!
We would like to thank the incredibly caring staff at Drummond Hall, 3rd floor, Parkland, who took such good care of dad over the last few months. Visitation will be held 7-9 pm, Thursday at Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd. Funeral mass will be celebrated 11 am, Friday at St. Catherine of Siena Church where a reception will follow in the Parish Hall immediately after mass. Burial will take place in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in memory may be made to Special Olympics or the Alzheimers Society. Online condolences may be made by visiting the Halifax Chapel at www.atlanticfuneralhomes.com
