Robertson, Shirley Elizabeth – Halifax, passed away on Dec 9th, 2012 at the Halifax Infirmary.
Born in Truro, she was the daughter of the late William and Eutavilla (Higgins) Dowling.
She was a proud member of Saint Lawrence’s Parish and the Catholic Women’s League. Shirley and her late husband owned & operated various businesses, but looking after family and friends children brought her the greatest joy, she was “Nan” to many.
Being a Cancer survivor, Mom took great pleasure for the last 20yrs arranging gift filled slippers which she delivered every Christmas Eve to the patients at the Cancer Ward of the VG.
Family gatherings were very special and important to her, whether she was preparing a large meal, baking cookies & pies, or just having a game of cards or yahtzee.
Mom had a special bond with her granddaughter Michelle, and as her health failed was able to live at home with the assistance of Michelle, her daughter Linda, son Billy and niece Theresa.
Shirley is survived by loving daughter Linda Chaddock (Bill), devoted son Billy, stepson David Kane (Sharleen), foster children Karen & Debbie Brown; sisters Iola (George) Gardner of Ottawa, Isabelle Coleman of Lethbridge; Grandchildren Michelle, David, Keith, Cheryl, Angela, Gary, Rhonda, Raelee, Derek, Lori and Gina; Great grandchildren Connor, Tyler, Marley Drew, Rory, Courtney, Maxie, Josh, Regan, Brinn and Riley; 5 nieces and nephews, daughter-in-law Janet.
Shirley was pre-deceased by husband George, son Gary, granddaughter Carrie and brother-in-law Bob Coleman.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral Mass will be at St. Agnes Church on Chebucto Rd, Friday Dec 14th at 2pm, Father John Williams officiating. Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of choice.
