
Dixon – Stanley Earl (Ernie), 95, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 25, 2012, at the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax. Born in Africville, he was the son of the late David and Augusta (Roan) Dixon. He is survived by long-time partner Mildred Thomas; daughters (granddaughters), Shelley (Brian) Hylton, Oshawa, Lisa (Chuck) Simpson, Brampton; son, Terry (Vivian) Dixon, Halifax, special son (grandson) Troy Dixon; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Special father and grandfather figure to the Thomas Family (Mildred’s children & grandchildren). He was predeceased by wife Evelyn (Ross) Dixon; daughters, Doris (Stephen) Oliver and Deborah Dixon-Jones; sons, Lawrence Ross & Robert (Bubby) Cassidy; sisters, Elsie Desmond, Eleanor Johnson and Iona Dixon; brother, David (Elsie) Dixon (Dan).Stan retired after 35 years with DND. He was a veteran of WWII, a member of Mount Messiah Masonic Lodge 87 and member of the Cape Breton Highlanders as a Stretcher Bearer in places like France & Italy. Stan played the alto saxophone with a jazz band that travelled throughout the Maritimes Provinces and was an avid Toronto Maple Leaf’s fan. He was a great story teller and historian and will be sadly missed. Visitation will be 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm on Tuesday, October 30, at Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 31 at 1:00pm at Cornwallis Street Baptist Church, Rev. Rhonda Britton officiating. Stan’s remains will be cremated at a later date and his resting place will be at the Oakridge Memorial Gardens in Sackville. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cornwallis Street Baptist church and Northwood Manor.
