Walter "Wally" Barrett
April 2, 1951 - April 17, 2016
Walter Francis Jr. (Wally) Barrett 65 passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, April 17th. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Walter F. Barrett, Sr. and Serena (Sampson) Barrett. Wally was a kind and gentle soul who loved his family dearly. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. Wally possessed a great love of all animals and nature, especially spending time enjoying the beauty of his favourite place, the family cottage in L’Ardoise, Cape Breton. One of his favourite past times was playing cribbage with his dad. He retired in 2006, where he worked in Hydrographic Services at the Department of National Defence. Wally is survived by his loving, dedicated and devoted wife, Jacqueline (Jenkins), mother Serena Barrett, siblings, Corrine (John), Elaine (Barry), David (Denis), Kevin (Elizabeth), Denise (Michael) and Gail (David), as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Walter. A special thank you to Cheryl & Gordie Hardy for all their kindness and support. Visitation will take place on Friday, April 22nd , from 6:00– 9:00 PM at the Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Road. A memorial service will take place at the Atlantic Funeral Home on Saturday, April 23rd at 11:00 AM, followed by a reception. Internment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA.
