<div itemprop="description"> <p> <b> Issard, Wilbert Warren (Issie) </b> , Halifax, has passed away peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his family, at the QEII, on October 8, 2011. Born in Halifax, the son of John and May Issard he will be remembered with great love and affection by his daughter, Jacqueline (Jackie) Upshaw, his son-in-law Melvin (Sonny) Upshaw, his granddaughters, Shauna, Leslyn and Theresa (TerI). &nbsp;He is also survived by one great granddaughter, Layla, four great grandsons-Jericho, Zuwa, Kainan and Isaiah, who carries his nickname &ldquo;Issie&rdquo;. He is also survived by nieces, Frances and Elaine Sheppard, whom he regarded as his daughters. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Issie also had the long term companionship of Becky Wight (predeceased) and his current faithful companion and travelling partner, Linda Watters. Issie was predeceased by his wife, Isabella (nee Jacklyn) and his brothers John and&nbsp; Frederick Issard Sisters Dorothy and Vera . As a younger man, Issie was a part of the original Rangers baseball team in Halifax and then in later years enjoyed curling at the Windsor Park Curling Club. Wilbert was a member of the Fairview and Scotia Branch Legions, and the Army,Navy and Airforce Club as well as the C &amp; PO&rsquo;S / WO&rsquo;S &amp; SGT&rsquo;S MESS. He gave many years of service to the Canadian Military from 1953- 1972, earning the rank and honour of being the first Black Sergeant in the Royal Canadian Army Paycorps.&nbsp; He remained as a civilian support as an accountant in the Canex stores until 1984, when he retired. His retirement was filled with golf, travel, family and friends. Issie was proud to be a member of the Ashburn Golf club where he won many Sr. tournaments with his partners. Issie was also a strong supporter of Black Nova Scotia Education organizations and he loved to travel to all parts of the world. Issie will be greatly missed by everyone. Memorial service will be held1pm Tuesday in the Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Road. &nbsp;The Family requests that in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the Heart and Stroke foundation and to the Black Educators Association of Nova Scotia.
