<div itemprop="description">Thompson, Winnifred “Winnie” Hazel 96 of Halifax passed away September 15, 2016 at Melville Gardens. Born in Beaver Harbour, she was a daughter of the late John and Blanche (Ring) Whitman and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was very proud to be an at home mom and after raising her family worked at Simpson Sears Limited. Winnie loved to bake and always shared more with her family and friends than she kept for herself. She also loved her Thursday card games at the Nor-West Seniors’ Club. Winnie was an avid traveler and enjoyed many trips. One of her fondest memories was a flight taken over Debert piloted by her great grandson, Kyle. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Philips Anglican Church which later became the Anglican Church of the Apostles. She is survived by her sons, Keith (Marjorie), Bernard (Bonnie), Vance (Ruth), Craig (Margie); 11 grandchildren; 17 greatgrandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Winnie was predeceased by her husband, Alonzo “Tommy”; brothers, Floyd, Earnest, George; sisters, Alice, Elva, Helen, Olie, Rose and Doll. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at 12:30 pm with memorial service at 1:30 pm Wednesday, September 21 in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax. Reception to follow. Family flowers only.
