<div itemprop="description"><br> <br> Beatrice Cooke (Sparks) – 86, Halifax passed away peacefully October 18, 2016 at home in her daughter Bonita’s arms. Born in Lake Loon, she was the daughter of the late William Harry and Sarah Jane (Crawley) Sparks. Our mother was a faithful Christian woman. She enjoyed young people and dedicated many years of her life teaching youth to grow in God’s faith and love. She was a former member of Cherry Brook United Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was a member of its BYPU. She was an active member of Cornwallis Street Baptist Church where she also taught Sunday School for over 20 years. Our mother was very active with several other of Cornwallis Street’s ministries. She did not limit her dedication to spreading “The Good News” in the church but also taught Christian Education at Joseph Howe Elementary and Saint Patrick’s Alexandra Schools. Mom enjoyed mid-week Bible study and visiting the sick, shut-in and elderly. Other mother was always known to read her Bible and always had a verse to share as words of encouragement. Mom was also part of several community groups including the North End Memorial Library Women’s Group and the North End Walkers. She worked as a domestic for over 40 years and provided well for her 5 children and was a proud grandmother to 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. She is survived by her sister Barbara Sparks (last surviving immediate family member); daughter Bonita (Kenneth) Fraser; sons Harold (Angela) (Halifax) and Stacey (Marcelle) (Ont.); grandchildren Orlando and Andre (Boo) (US), Charys, Melissa, Kayla, Jasmine and Seth; great-grandchild Orlando (little O) Jr.; godchildren William (Billy) Riley, Susan Glasgow and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her son Graham Cooke, husband Vincent Cooke, daughter Donna (Cooke) Morton; sisters - Mildred, Sarah Jane, Rose and Ida; brothers - Clarence, Henry and Alexander; beloved niece Elizabeth (Sparks) Jackson, godson Avery Sparks. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax where visitation will be held Tuesday, October 25, 2016 from 7-9pm. Funeral service will be held at Cornwallis Street Baptist Church, October 26 at 11am. Dr. Rhonda Britton officiating, assisted by Rev. Dr. Lionel Moriah and Rev. Wayne Desmond. Interment will be at Cherry Brook Cemetery. Repast will be held at Cornwallis Street Baptist Church. Donations may be made to the Cornwallis Street Baptist Church Building Fund and the Alzheimer's Association of Nova Scotia.</div>
