NOADE, Joseph Patrick “Joe”-87 of Halifax. With great sadness we announce the passing of our husband, father, and grandfather on Saturday April 25, 2015 peacefully at home.
Born in Launching, PEI he was a son of the late Edward and Margaret (Curran) Noade.
Joe ran away from home at the age of 15 to join the Merchant Navy during WWII. He sailed on Canadian and American ships crossing the Atlantic in support of the war effort. He also served during the Korean Conflict. In his early forties he lost his eyesight but that never affected his positive outlook on life. He loved to tell stories of his many adventures at sea and abroad. He had a great sense of humour and loved music. He was also a fabulous singer who could emulate his favorites, Bing Crosby and Dean Martin.
Joe is survived by his wife of 65 years, Blanche (Barrett); daughters, Colleen (Gary) Foran, Linda (Pat) Evans, Sue (Leo) VanDenBussche, Janet Noade; grandchildren, Troy (Maria) Foran, Michael Foran, Jeff (Cheryll Hopper) Foran, Jason (Kylie Strickland) Dorey, Karley (Trevor Fontaine) VanDenBussche, Kaitlyn (Luc North) VanDenBussche; step-grandchildren; Andrew Evans, Chris (Jesse) Evans; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Nyah Foran; step-great grandchild Emmerson Evans. He is also survived by sister, Margaret (Vincent) Sampson; brother Robert Noade and several nieces and nephews; extended family members, Lawrence Dorey, and Cary Grigg.
Joe was predeceased by daughters, Catherine and Deborah and nine brothers.
Visitation will be held from 7-9pm on Tuesday April 28 in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Road, Halifax. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday April 29 at 12pm in the funeral home chapel. Burial in Oakridge Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
The family wishes to thank the paramedics and Cst.
