<div itemprop="description">Thelma Evangeline Marsman Age, 85 of Halifax passed away peacefully surrounded by members of her loving family on December 14, 2016 at the QE11 Hospital. Thelma, born March 12, 1931 in Upper Hammonds Plains, was the daughter of Ernest Jenkins and Madeline (Jenkins) Symonds. Thelma, a devoted Christian, baptized in 1945 by Rev. Morgan in Upper Hammonds Plains, was a faithful and humble servant of God. She was married in 1949 to Gerald Everett Marsman (deceased) by the late Rev. Dr. W. P. Oliver. She was a dedicated member of Cornwallis Street Baptist Church for over forty years. She served as president of the choir and president of the ladies auxiliary and deaconess for several terms. After retiring from her occupation as a caregiver, she was an appreciated volunteer for her years of contributions to the Spencer House Senior's Centre, providing care and transportation to other seniors. Accomplished in knitting, crocheting and writing poems of spiritual worship, she was also blessed with a beautiful singing voice, all of which she used to magnify her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Thelma was a loving mother and grandmother who loved and appreciated the uniqueness of each of her children. She was a gentle spirited woman, full of wisdom whose words comforted and supported many. Thelma/mom/nan, was dearly loved by all who knew her. She will be greatly missed by her children, family and friends. <br> Proverbs 31 vs. 28 - Her children arise up, and call her blessed <br>Thelma is survived by sons; Archie, Halifax; Carson (Rochelle),Vancouver, BC; Ritchie, Halifax; Elwin, Halifax; Everett (Denise), Dartmouth; Peter, Halifax; Corey (Denise), Hubley daughters; Wanda Marsman, Brampton, ON; Minister Grace (Kevin) Skeir, Dartmouth; Brenda (Gordon) Benjamin, Brampton, ON; Susan Charles, Halifax; Dinah Marsman, Halifax; Iris Marsman, Halifax; Karen (Jackson) Marsman, Dartmouth; Leesa (Chapman) Marsman, Virginia Beach, VA., 25 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, brother Elwood (Joyce) Marsman, sisters: Genevive Symonds. <br>In addition to her parents and husband, Thelma was predeceased by sisters; Loretta Lucas, Georgina Parsons, brothers; Reverend Calvin Symonds and Victor Symonds. <br> Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm, 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm, Thursday, December 22, at Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Road, Halifax with funeral service 11:00 am Friday, December 23, 2016 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Hammonds Plains, Dr. Rhonda Britton officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Cornwallis Street Baptist Church.</div>
