Marion Blanche (nee Fullerton) Schnare (1934-2017)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Mother and Grandmother on April 3, 2017 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She was born in Moncton, New Brunswick and moved to Middle Sackville, Nova Scotia at an early age. Marion held various administrative positions in the insurance industry.

She was an avid hockey fan and rarely missed cheering on her favourite team, the Montreal Canadians - Go Habs Go! She derived great joy from watching figure skating and attending live performances of Stars on Ice. She was a keen card player and proclaimed herself the Queen of Auction 45s. She enjoyed swimming and spending a weekend searching for a special treasure at yard sales and flea markets. Having been born in the Great Depression, she experienced history first hand and thoroughly enjoyed sharing facts and stories over a hot cup of tea. She was a master puzzler, avid reader, excelled in spelling and had impeccable penmanship. She loved nothing more than the time she spent with her family and especially loved the larger gatherings.

Marion is the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her parents, Howard and Nora (Jonah) Fullerton; brothers, Stanley (Avis), Paul (Irene) and Herman (Sheila); sisters, Evelyn, Myrtle Coughlan, Audrey Haverstock; grandson, John Lively; son-in-law, James Harrison.

Marion is survived by her six daughters - Linda (Wayne) Stay, Janice Lively, Pamela (Paul) Henley, Christine (Barry) Zonta, Charlene Harrison and Laurene (Paul) Shreenan.

She is also survived by ten grandchildren - Michael, Lisa, Jennifer, Matthew, Kerry, Melanie, Julie, Geoffrey, Christopher, Kaitlyn and eleven great-grandchildren - John, Dillan, Mackayla, Nicholas, Madison, Keira, Matthew, Sidney, Daxten, Ruby and Maxwell.

She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Kendall Haverstock, and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. Morris Trager and Northwood Homecare for their care over the years. A special thank you to Mom's neighbours for all the help and support they provided to her. Also, thanks to the Emergency Department staff of the Halifax Infirmary for their compassion and kindness.

Mom had requested that in lieu of flowers a donation may be made to Cop Shop. Cop Shop is a partnership between Halifax Regional Police and Halifax Shopping Centre. Annually, 50 deserving children are chosen to experience a special Christmas experience including shopping with a police officer. To donate to this wonderful program cheques should be made payable to: Halifax Shopping Centre Promotion Fund and mailed to Halifax Shopping Centre Promotion Fund, 7001 Mumford Road, Halifax Place, Suite 203, Halifax, NS, B3L 4R3. Note inside should read: Attention: 20Vic Management, Stephanie Schnare Copshop -
In Memory of Marion Schnare.

A family service will follow at a later date.

Our Mother and Grandmother was the strongest woman we know. She taught us by her example to work hard, laugh often and enjoy life to the fullest. Most importantly, she taught us to always have resilience in the face of adversity.

"Here's to strong women, may we know them, may we be them, may we raise them." - Unknown
