Age: 88 years old
Passed away Thursday May 23rd, 2013 at QE2 Hospital, Halifax Nova Scotia.
Born in Sydney Nova Scotia he was the son of the late George and Nellie Wilson. He was the beloved husband of the late Melba Fernie (nee Smith) for 52 years. He is survived by his brother Melrose Wilson (Jackie) of Sydney, Nova Scotia and his brother-in-law Dick Ablett of Ancaster, Ontario. He was predeceased by his sisters Elsie Sheppard, Evelyn Doyle, Hazel Grant, Marion Farley and Joyce MacNamara. He was a much-loved uncle and great uncle to his many nieces and nephews.
Walter lived a full and happy 88 years. He worked in the fire safety supply business until he was 86 years old. He spent 36 winters at the Sunseeker’s RV Park in North Fort Myers, Florida where he had wonderful friends and was the life of the party. He was known as Mr. Fix-It and could always be counted on to help others. His positive attitude always sustained him, especially in the past six months.
The funeral service followed by a reception will take place on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 11 AM at the Atlantic Funeral Home on Bayers Rd. There will be visitation at the funeral home for an hour before the service. The internment at Oakridge Memorial Gardens in Lower Sackville will follow the reception.
The family wishes to thank Walter’s many neighbours and friends who helped him out over the past few years. Special thanks to the staff at The Berkeley-Gladstone for their compassionate care over the past four months. Thanks also to Dr. Morris Trager who oversaw Walter's care for many years.
